ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Eric Lam has more than two decades experience as an inquiry-based & STEM domain expert and education technology visionary, having co-authored more than 20 textbooks and supplemental material that are approved by the Ministry of Education in Singapore and Cambridge for secondary science learning and whose work has directly contributed to Singapore’s standards in Science education, as a leading education system in the world ranked by PISA. He is also the Expert Advisor to the Ministry of Education of Mongolia, advising the ministry on policies and teacher professional development.
Eric founded Singapore’s leading STEM education company that focused on life sciences education in 2000 and quickly became an internationally-recognised expert in inquiry-based pedagogies, skills-mapping, formative assessments and eLearning, Eric pioneered an award-winning method of Inquiry-based Teaching using interactive technologies. His works in combining interactive digital media and pedagogy have been endorsed by world renowned experts in education and assessment, and have proven to be well received by more than 500,000 students and educators alike. Eric’s expertise also extends to teacher training and advisory work for course developers and trainers in the domain of adult education and professional development.
Eric’s work in pedagogy design has been recognised by some of the world’s leading experts in Science education with direct influence in PISA. Amongst these experts is Dr. Rodger Bybee, former Chair of PISA 2006 Science Expert Committee and the creator of the BSCS 5Es Instructional Model for inquiry-based learning, who recognised some of Eric’s work in interactive learning of Science and Engineering as “a 21st century response to a 21st century vision.” Eric has also co-authored a chapter in Dr. Bybee’s instructional book on realising the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in the classroom (NSTA, 2013). His expertise in learning design and skills mapping extends into adult professional development, where he has advised governments and corporations on such domains. In 2020, he was the only education professional with experience that spans K-12 and adult learning to be selected as a member of the Education Alliance in the Emerging Stronger Taskforce, led by the Singapore Government and industry leaders to help Singapore navigate out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
